Vanilla Sugar

  • 1 medium vanilla bean
  • 1 cup sugar

Simply split and scrape your beans and combine. After taking this photo I filled the container with the remaining sugar so that the beans will be fully submerged and it will sit like this for 4 weeks. At that point I will run it through the food processor (NOT the blender) and sift it to remove any chunks.

I’ve done this process with different kinds of sugar, and with salt! It’s much quicker than making an extract and vanilla sugar is more commonly used in other countries so it’s nice to have both on hand
